Latest Man Utd Transfer Gossip and News
Manchester United’s exhausting transfer saga finally seems to be over, while the club miss out ona defensive target, and seem likely to allow a striker to leave on loan.
Paul Pogba has arrived in Manchester and will undergo a medical this afternoon, according to the Manchester Evening News. The club confirmed yesterday that they had been given permission by Juventus to sign the French international midfielder, with the transfer fee rumoured to be between £89 million and £110 million. The 23-year-old will then join the squad at Carrington training ground, and could be available for the opening Premier League fixture against Bournemouth on Sunday.
Transfer Probability: 5/5 – There was plenty of scepticism surrounding the daily Pogba gossip, though United’s confirmation has surely sealed the deal now, and the world-record transfer is guaranteed.
United target Jose Fonte is almost certainly going to remain at Southampton, according to a Sky Sports interview with manager Claude Puel. The Red Devils have been linked with the 32-year-old centre-back after reports that Jose Mourinho wants a senior figure in the back-line. Fonte has impressed during his 6 years with the Saints, helping the club earn two promotions, as well as winning the Euros with Portugal this summer. When asked if Fonte will stay at the club, Puel stated ‘Yes. He is a very important player for the squad and the team.’
Transfer Probability: 1/5 – It rarely looked likely to happen, especially given Fonte’s history with Southampton, and United are probably not going to sign another defender this summer.
Finally, ESPN FC are claiming that Championship side Birmingham City are interested in taking James Wilson on loan. The 21-year-old striker has struggled to consistently feature for the Red Devils since making his first-team debut in 2014, and enjoyed a reasonably good loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion last season. Wilson does not feature in Mourinho’s plans for the upcoming campaign, though Birmingham are keen to add him to their attack after a goalless draw in their opening league fixture against Cardiff.
Transfer Probability: 5/5 – With Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford all in selection, Wilson doesn’t have any immediate future at Old Trafford, and seems assured to be heading on loan somewhere soon.
