Brazilian
icon Ronaldinho has admitted that he could not see Neymar leaving
Barcelona for arch-rivals Real Madrid but has urged his compatriot to
follow his heart.
Neymar's
father admitted recently that his son, who has a £146.2million (€190m)
release cause in his contract, received a big offer to leave Barca.
And a subsequent report from Spanish daily ABC suggested that it was Zinedine Zidane's Real who were interested in the acquisition.
Ronaldinho
spent five seasons at the Nou Camp between 2003 and 2008, and in that
time collected two La Liga titles, a Champions League medal and
the Ballon d'Or prize.
Nevertheless,
the Blaugrana great has indicated that he would not begrudge the
23-year-old a move to Madrid if that is what he wanted.
Neymar to Madrid? I want him to be happy, he's a friend,' Ronaldinho told Cadena Ser .
'I
would love him to continue at [Barcelona] and keep making history, but
I'm not going to advise him to stay or go, he should just follow his
heart,' he added.
'In happiness there is advice, because what is good for one is not always good for another.'
The
35-year-old was then full of praise for Argentine maestro Lionel Messi,
and joked that he may not have made the Barca team had he played
alongside the club's current triumvirate of Messi, Neymar and Luis
Suarez.
'Messi, the best ever? After me, yeah,' Ronaldinho joked.
'Football today is the age of Messi, Neymar and Suarez, but in my day there would have been alternatives.
'Just kidding. I played with [Samuel] Eto'o, [Ludovic] Giuly, [Henrik] Larsson ... if I do not speak of them who will?'
